WynterCon originated in 2012 from humble beginnings, starting with ideas jotted down on a notepad. It was originally conceived as a gathering for enthusiasts of pop culture, including sci-fi, fantasy, horror and film.

The event also had a goal to raise money for local Eastbourne charities by blending community service with entertainment. Whilst initially a commercial venture, it quickly became a significant community event.
